Day 2 of Mass Strikes on Ukraine from Russia; More on Palianytsia

France24

Russia launched several waves of missile and drone attacks targeting scores of Ukrainian regions and killing at least four people, Ukraine's military said early on Tuesday, a day after Moscow's biggest air attack of the war on its neighbour. “There are several reasons for this attack,” explains FRANCE 24’s International Affairs Editor Philip Turle. “The first one is the incursion into the Kursk region.”

SABA

MOSCOW August 27. 2024 (Saba)– Sergei Lebedev, the Russian coordinator for covert operations in the Nikolaev region, has reported that Russian forces conducted a bombing raid on a headquarters for foreign military trainers in Ukraine.

The strike reportedly wounded 15 individuals, who were identified as mercenaries speaking English.

Lebedev stated, “The operation was successfully executed overnight in Krivoy Rog. Military paramedics evacuated approximately 15 injured personnel. According to our sources, these individuals were English-speaking.”

Following the attack, the State Security Administration cordoned off the targeted building, preventing civilian ambulances from accessing the site.

Ongoing clashes in the border area are reportedly resulting in significant losses for Ukrainian forces, both in personnel and equipment.

At least five people have been killed after Russia fired waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine, a day after Moscow launched the biggest air attack of its invasion.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks included 81 drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles, and that 16 people were injured.

Ukrainian air defences shot down about 15 drones and several missiles near Kyiv during Russia’s overnight attack, according to Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration.

Everything that flew to the capital of Ukraine was destroyed,” he said in a statement via the Telegram messaging app.

On Monday, Russia launched more than 200 missiles and drones, killing at least seven people and damaging energy infrastructure.

US President Joe Biden has condemned the “outrageous” attack.

Of course he did- Yet, Israel’s very deadly attacks are not outrageous. Thinking about how information is presented to us in one situation vs another.

Analysts at the Washington-based think tank Institute for the Study of War, said in their note late on Monday that Moscow “likely lacks the defence-industrial capacity to sustain such massive strikes at a similar scale with regularity.”

More on the home grown long range missile Ukraine has at it’s disposal from Defense Post

The Ukrainian military has unveiled a new, long-range rocket drone designed to neutralize targets deep inside Russia.

Called “Palianytsia,” the weapon combines the features of drones and missiles, including having a micro-turbojet engine that generates 43 kilograms (95 pounds) of thrust.

It is also reportedly armed with a 20-kilogram (44-pound) blast fragmentation warhead similar to the capacity of an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile.

In terms of aerodynamic design, the autonomous platform looks like a traditional rocket with a central body, forward-positioned wings, and a detachable tail section.

The rocket drone can be launched from a ground platform and is said to be cheaper to operate than other weapons of the same type.

Symbolic Name

The name of the rocket drone is symbolic for Kyiv because apart from it being a traditional bread, it is also difficult for Russians to pronounce correctly.

The word was also used at the onset of the invasion to distinguish Ukrainians from Russians and symbolizes Ukrainian identity and resistance.
