US Confirms deployment of the THAAD- Plugging Iron Dome Holes?

Yet another reason the claims of the US and Israel being at odds seem hard to believe. The US keeps right on aiding Israel. One wonders if the US and Israel have some sort of toxic parent/child like relationship, with the US simply acting as an over indulgent parent to an always demanding child?

Answering yesterday’s question of what comes next?

The system, previously deployed in the Middle East after October 7 ‘to defend American troops and interests in the region’, will be sent to Israel as part of preparations for a possible Israeli strike on Iran and a potential Iranian retaliation

WASHINGTON – The Pentagon confirmed on Sunday the U.S. will deploy an anti-ballistic missile system and crew to Israel, intended to bolster the country’s air defenses in preparation for a possible strike in Iran and a potential Iranian response.

On Saturday, sources said no exact date has been set for the deployment of the system, and a security source stated that if the move is completed, it would be the first time the system, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), is operationally deployed in Israel.

“The THAAD Battery will augment Israel’s integrated air defense system. This action underscores the United States' ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel and to defend Americans in Israel from any further ballistic missile attacks by Iran,” the Pentagon’s statements reads.

A THAAD battery was previously deployed to the Middle East “last year following the October 7 attacks, to defend American troops and interests in the region,” the statement adds.

In 2019, the system was deployed in Israel as part of an air defense drill between the IDF and the U.S. military. This came after then-U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to withdraw most U.S. forces from Syria.

At the time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “The system is considered one of the most advanced systems in the world, and together with our defense systems we’re even stronger [and can] handle threats, near and far, from all across the Middle East.”

NBC News reported earlier on Saturday that the U.S. believes Israel won’t strike Iran’s nuclear sites as a response to Tehran’s ballistic missile attack earlier this month. Officials believe that Israel is considering strikes on military targets and energy infrastructure, according to the report.
