A US ceasefire offer to Iran made and reneged on by Israel

There’s info on x as well, but, here’s the truth amidst the sea of lies from the Guardian

Pezeshkian had already been complaining that he had received little in return for listening to western-inspired pleas not to seek immediate revenge for the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader assassinated by Israel in Tehran.

Pezeshkian said he had been promised that a Gaza ceasefire deal that would see the release of hostages and Palestinian political prisoners was only a week or two away.

The deal never materialised because, in Iran’s eyes, the US refused to put the pressure required on Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the ceasefire terms.

Let down once, Pezeshkian is hardly inclined to believe US vows that it had no prior knowledge of the plan to kill Nasrallah – and, anyway, Netanyahu might have sanctioned his death from a hotel bedroom in New York, but it was US-supplied bombs that exploded in Beirut.

For Washington, this is a diplomatic humiliation and a display of its inability, or refusal, to control its troublesome ally.

Netanyahu hopes to have played American diplomats for fools in New York.

The US state department insists it had a clear understanding on the basis of conversations with Ron Dermer, Israel’s strategic affairs minister, and Netanyahu that Israel would accept a 21-day ceasefire, and yet as soon as the plan was announced, Netanyahu reneged on the deal.

Each time, Netanyahu acknowledged the US position, sidestepped a clear response and then ultimately ignored Washington. Each time, the US – vexed and frustrated – has expressed misgivings about Netanyahu’s strategy, but each time it has continued to pass the ammunition.

Netanyahu did play American diplomats for fools! With friends like this who needs enemies?

Or American officials are lying to give themselves some sort of distance or create some plausible deniability. Though the bombs they continue to provide to Israel did the killing!

American are fools or liars- Probably liars. Like their allies in Israel.

Even if Nasrallah was expecting a US brokered cease fire it was a grave security breach for him to locate himself below a known Hezbollah political / administrative ‘headquarters”. Scott Ritter said that the Israelis bombed this very site back in 2005 and it has been a known target ever since. I suppose they thought his bunker was deep enough.
This murder adds to the long list of martyrs for the resistance and will only stiffen resolve. It is likely that the next leader will be younger and more radical and the deadly cycle of revenge violence will continue unabated.
The US continues to be played for fools in front of the global south and with China, Russia and Iran and they have lost any credibility as a negotiation broker. The dogs of war have slipped their restraints. Sad times.

Hi Mark,
not sure what happened there- Perhaps the relative stability had made Hezbollah lax? Perhaps the organization has infiltrators?
That said, yes, this will stiffen the resolve of others- was listening to martyr made podcast- he was talking about situations such as this, in the past, resulting in an influx of resistance fighters. So you’re correct!

He’s an interesting fellow- I’m a subscriber, sadly, an unpaid one 🙁
Cause paying for this hobby/geo political interest of mine, is enough!
Is the US being played for a fool? Or is it allowing itself to be played as part of it’s own agenda?
I”m seeing collusion to enact that remake the US has been aiming at for some time now- Birth Pangs of a new middle east as Condoleeza Rice said

see how history rhymes?

2006- Condoleezza Rice has described the plight of Lebanon as a part of the “birth pangs of a new Middle East” and said that Israel should ignore calls for a ceasefire.
