Long, but, thoughtful and indepth- Worth reading.
Walter Kirn, an American novelist and cultural critic, in his 2009 memoir, Lost in the Meritocracy, described how, after a sojourn at Oxford, he came to be a member of ‘the class that runs things’ – the one that “writes the headlines, and the stories under them”
Now 61, Kirn has a newsletter on Substack and co-hosts a lively podcast devoted in large part to critiquing ‘establishment liberalism’. His contrarian drift has made him more vocal about his distrust of élite institutions – as he wrote in 2022:
“For years now, the answer, in every situation—‘
Russiagate,’ COVID, Ukraine—has been more censorship, more silencing, more division, more scapegoating
. It’s almost as if these are goals in themselves – and the cascade of emergencies mere excuses for them. Hate is always the way,”
Kirn’s politics, a friend of his suggested, was “old-school liberal,” underscoring that it was the other ‘so-called liberals’ who had changed: “I’ve been told repeatedly in the last year that free speech is a right-wing issue; I wouldn’t call [Kirn] Conservative. I would just say he’s a free-thinker, nonconformist, iconoclastic”, the friend said.
To understand Kirn’s contrarian turn – and to make sense of today’s form of American politics – it is necessary to understand one key term. It is not found in standard textbooks, but is central to the new playbook of power: the “whole of society”.
“The term was popularised roughly a decade ago by the Obama administration, which liked that its bland, technocratic appearance could be used as cover to erect a mechanism for a governance ‘whole-of-society’ approach” – one that asserts that as actors – media, NGOs,corporations and philanthropist institutions – interact with public officials to play a critical role not just in setting the public agenda, but in enforcing public decisions.
Jacob Siegel has explained the historical development of the ‘whole of society’ approach during the Obama administration’s attempt to pivot in the ‘war on terror’ to what it called ‘CVE’ – countering violent extremism. The idea was to surveil the American people’s online behaviour in order to identify those who may, at some unspecified time in the future, ‘commit a crime’.
Too many are championing X-Twitter as a bastion of free speech- I don’t believe it for a moment. It seems obvious to me X-Twitter will surveil posters as much as any other social media platform.
Hope you do read the article.

Penny,
Great article by Alistair Crooke, thanks.
It’s quite easy to see who runs the deep state and exercises control over the puppet politicians in the “western democracies”. One just has to look at the boards of governors of the blue chip corporations, many of whom hold multiple seats. Add to that the national banking conglomerates and the large hedge fund managers. Also we have the cadre of famous multi billionaires. Add in the WHO, the WEF and the hypocritical ‘not for profit’ NGO’s.
The singer Paul Simon ( of all people ) coined an apt description of this un-elected group of power hungry sociopaths. He called them…”…a loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires.” Seemingly the only common thread to their various agendas is mercantile non-religious zionism and the suppression of human rights.
I thought it was a good article too. I enjoyed the interview as well.
How things are perceived has changed and can be affected by your own core beliefs. Or in my case if your a total cynic then everything is to be questioned. Politicians. Billionaires.
The WHO, WEF, and all the so called non profit NGO’s are the gears that keep the whole machine running. So much illusion contributes to much delusion.
I’m at a loss regarding the lionization of both Musk and Trump. They are just more of the same presented in a different light
1. Life Imitates art, this is falling quite heavily into the metaphysical, but it almost feels like that we as a humanity are building a story depending on the subconscious thoughts of all people. I decided to categorize these subconscious thoughts as silent prayers which are never really challenged by people. The way to challenge this is frequent prayer/meditation and with frequent I think few times a day would be in the ballpark. This is necessary since we are in an environment which has a lot of stimulation. News, Reports, Movies, Books, Pictures. Right now there are 2 ideas that are going be wished into reality at this pace.
– Civil War(And not just the US mind you)
– Pandemic. (Zombie-esque)
2. People have not grown out of needing priests and popes from their lives, They just replaced it with something else
With other words, people are wishing things into reality which they do not realize they are a part of.
multidisciplinary approach of mine is feeding these thoughts for me.
Hi Kaz,
You’ve got a lot going on in that comment. When I first read it, I was unsure how to respond.
Many different people talk about NPC’s- non player characters and they associate it with the way too many people live their lives ,devoid of consideration or mindfulness. Got me thinking about LARPing as well. During Covid, it really did seem to me many people were LARPing- they were living some drama in their lives that they desperately needed for some reason unknown to me. Like they enjoyed the idea of being locked down and having to be saved by a ‘saviour’ It was really weird to me.
So I do see where you are coming from when you say people have replaced priests and popes with other things- Thinking about the way Fauci was sainted by the media- the media often presents political leaders in the same light.. I find all that stuff disturbing.
“people are wishing things into reality which they do not realize they are a part of.”
Can you clarify this? I’d assume if people are wishing for things they’d know they are a part of that thing? But am not sure

I have been reading into books with regards to the Subconscious mind, Psycho Cybernetics and one which is called crowd. Combining these with what I know of theology and interested in how the mechanics with regards to prayers could work.
I came to the following hypothesis using the works above. The subconsciousness mind is described as an agent not bound by morals which does work for you behind the scenes and has reach beyond the individual, however this is not a force that you can steer consciously, redirecting it is possible by persistence by using meditation/prayer/self-monologue/self-realization in a state between awake and asleep. This helps them to shape their desires onto their subconscious, but if one is not careful with it, it could manifest undesirable solutions/results. The range in which you can redirect your subconscious has limits, immutable ones and ones set yourself.
Now lets come to this “people are wishing things into reality which they do not realize they are a part of.”
People are trained to have certain biases during the lifetime. be it from parent, school, unit etc. They are in a spree of repetition which molds them. i.e leaks into their subconscious of how things are, order. authority life roadmap, expectations. But besides that we also have another force, Media, Be it advertisement, news report, movies, videogames and what have you These attempt to instill so ideas into you, but more dangerous is with movies and series especially the desire of wanting more. that specific desire is so ambiguous who knows in what kind of way that will manifest in order to satisfy the expectation of the individual.
Next is group/crowd think. I am still going through it, but the theme I see at the moment is, that a crowd can be described for a lack of a better word A monster, where the individual is lost and devolves into a primitive being where his critical thinking is compromised and most importantly exists in the extremes. It states that a speaker of a crowd in a crisis has to speak in extremes in order to keep the crowd with him If it were to try to stay rational it would lose the crowd so to say. If you need an example look at the rhetoric used during covid or the wars.
This stuff is hard to write correctly and I just hope that its conveyed properly. And that what I am saying is clarified enough
Kaz, i understand, perhaps not entirely but enough to get where you are coming from- I read that book The Crowd by Gustave LeBon- I have it and while I was reading took copious notes- Hubby was just saying oh yah, that little book. Little yes, but, it packs a mighty punch! Have not read psycho cybernetics
Regarding the subconscious mind and manifesting things unintentionally- I know a person. They want everything and believe themselves entitled to everything, though there is no real reason for them to believe this, nothing else matters. When they act with such blatant disregard for others- they manifest a response that had not been intended or desired or even thought of. Because this individual had not thought beyond their own self. They had not considered that other persons will react negatively and they manifest negativity or hostility because of their actions. Yet, had this person considered through some sort of self realization why they may not be entitled to act or behave or have the things they do?
“that specific desire is so ambiguous who knows in what kind of way that will manifest in order to satisfy the expectation of the individual”
I get this- the desire being so ambiguous that it manifests itself in ways that will not satisfy the expectation of the individual. It can’t because persons like that are unaware of what it is they need. To feel fulfilled or happy or whatever?
Crowd think “A monster, where the individual is lost and devolves into a primitive being where his critical thinking is compromised and most importantly exists in the extremes.”
Absolutely can be, though it can also be a force for good. I think of people who band together to rescue a child or an animal- In that case the force is good
But then the monster in the crowd is another thing all together- The same power and energy that could be a force for good, turns into a force for malevolence.
What is the difference? What makes the difference? Is it energetic? Is it an egregore that has manifested for evil instead of good?
This is hard to write but my feeling is you’ve clarified enough for me that I get where you’re coming from.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of Egregore

another book I’ve read, loved and read again. Listened to multiple interviews of the author on the subject
Very good, very interesting. Very much a part of this subject
Interesting, will get a copy of that book.
