Iran News Grab Bag

Interestingly, US and Israel have been bombing drawings of F-14 jets.

There is no evidence that Iran is building a nuclear bomb, the head of the UN’s atomic energy agency has said, despite claims by Israel and the US that the country poses an imminent nuclear threat.

Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, gave the assessment on X on Tuesday.

“I have been very clear and consistent in my reports on Iran’s nuclear programme: while there has been no evidence of Iran building a nuclear bomb, its large stockpile of near-weapons-grade enriched uranium and refusal to grant my inspectors full access are cause for serious concern,” Grossi wrote.

Except those stockpiles have been monitored… clearly.

Russia holds talks with Iraq, Palestine and Türkiye amid US–Israel–Iran conflict

Russia’s top diplomats held consultations with officials from Iraq, Palestine and Türkiye as tensions escalated following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, the Russian foreign ministry said.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, which, according to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement on Wednesday, was focused on the urgency of stopping hostilities and returning to the path of political and diplomatic settlement.

Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko separately met Palestinian Ambassador Abdel Hafiz Nofal in Moscow, where the two sides exchanged views on the situation in Gaza and on the formation of the US-promoted Board of Peace.

Another deputy foreign minister, Andrey Rudenko, also held talks with Turkish Ambassador Tanju Bilgic on the crisis surrounding Iran and broader developments in the Middle East.

Russia’s principled position in favour of the need for the swift de-escalation of the conflict, resolving all issues through political and diplomatic methods, and ensuring the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure was confirmed,” the ministry’s statement read.

Iran yesterday expanded its targets, striking the US embassy in Saudi Arabia (I believe there was a CIA station at the embassy, which would be the norm) as Washington began to pull many staff out of the Middle East. The US and Israel battered Iran with airstrikes in what US President Donald Trump suggested was just the start of a war that has severely disrupted the world’s supply of oil and gas, international shipping and air travel.

The conflict escalated further on its fourth day, with Israel sending new ground troops into Lebanon and explosions ringing out in Iran’s capital. Hundreds of people have been killed, the vast majority in Iran.

Disrupting oil and gas shipments

At least 200 ships, including oil and liquefied natural gas tankers as well as cargo ships, remained at anchor in open waters off the coast of major Gulf producers including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, according to Reuters estimates based on ship-tracking data from the MarineTraffic platform.

Hundreds of other vessels remained outside Hormuz unable to reach ports, shipping data showed. The waterway is a key artery for around a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG supply.

Qatar will fully shut down gas liquefaction on Wednesday and won't return to normal production and exports for at least a month, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Gas giant QatarEnergy declared force majeure on shipments of LNG after attacks on its production facilities.

A force majeure clause in a contract excuses one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations due to extraordinary, unforeseen events beyond their control, such as natural disasters, wars, or pandemics

Iraq cut its oil production as the country ran out of storage, unable to load it in tankers. Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait were also struggling to load oil but it was not yet clear if they cut output.

Trump claimed the US Navy was going to accompany ships through the Straits. Not sure if this will happen

There is a real possibility Israel attacked Saudi Arabia’s oil fields in a false flag attack

Israel itself attacked the Saudi Aramco refinery in Ras Tanura in a false flag operation and is planning a similar action at the port of Fujairah in the UAE. This was reported by TASS citing the Tasnim agency.

TRTworld

“The attack that took place this morning on Saudi Aramco oil facilities was carried out by Israelis and is an example of a ‘false flag’ operation,” a source told the agency. According to him, Saudi Aramco facilities have never been targets of Iran.

“According to information provided to us by intelligence sources, the port of Fujairah in the UAE is also one of the Israelis’ next targets in a false flag operation,” he added

Wouldn’t doubt it.

Iran strikes US and British ships carrying cargo for Israel – IRGC

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced strikes on US and British vessels heading to Israel. According to the commander, Iran has already attacked more than 10 ships during the war.

Iran is launching missiles from its underground missile cities without launch pads or standard equipment.

The war continues on
