US, EU, Ukraine: Peace as a Ruse

The premise being one of buying time, managing perceptions and “rebuilding” Ukraine to continue fighting as a proxy.

I’ve changed the title- Russia would like the destabilization campaign to end. One would think Ukraine would too, but, no. The US and EU are still looking to balkanize Russia.

Ongoing fighting- Including Ukraine striking Grozny, which didn’t sit well with Kadyrov- We’ll see what happens?

Understanding the UK’s fake Ukraine Peace Play

The United Kingdom has no desire to give up on the Ukraine War—but it has signaled a desire for peace as a way to keep America on board.

If UK is signalling peace as a way to keep America on board, this means America isn’t leaving the Ukraine war. This is a ploy to manage perceptions and the UK is going along with it.

This is less a change of heart and more of a wily wait-and-see approach. The British government does not actually favor a peace deal that would address, as the Russians constantly insist, the “root causes” of the Ukraine War. (Nor does the US) Instead, London wants to buy time for Ukraine to restore its fighting capabilities and be prepared to reopen hostilities at a more favorable point. (The US wants the same thing)

To be clear: the British and the Europeans do not want a permanent peace in Ukraine. They want to essentially wait out the Trump administration, which has around 35 months left in office—and is likely to be hamstrung if the Democrats regain control of one or both houses of Congress after the midterm elections in November 2026.

British Peace Talk Isn’t Really About Peace

Britain and Europe assume that they can spend the next few years restoring Ukrainian fighting capabilities and then reopen hostilities with Russia once a more amenable American president is elected in 2028.

Valery Zaluzhny Is the West’s Next Big Bet for Ukraine

That is why London has been cultivating the likes of Valery Zaluzhny, the current Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom. A war hero and a man widely believed to be a tough but rational player, Zaluzhny is widely seen as MI6’s man in Ukraine’s leadership.

US Set to make increased Pre-Christmas Arms Delivery to Ukraine

Despite the strategic pivot, officials said that arms deliveries to Ukraine have continued and are expected to increase before Christmas, underscoring Washington’s intent to keep Kyiv armed even as it reshapes NATO’s internal burden-sharing.

The US will keep Ukraine armed because they want this war to continue same as the Europeans.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced he will attend a summit in London with the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, and the United Kingdom to coordinate support for Kyiv. The meeting comes as Macron condemned Russia’s latest large-scale strikes on Ukrainian energy and rail infrastructure.

French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed his participation in a high-level meeting in London concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine. The talks, scheduled for Monday, will bring together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to assess the situation and advance diplomatic efforts.

Coordinating Support and Security Guarantees

The London meeting aims to review both military developments and diplomatic initiatives, including those undertaken by the “Coalition of the Willing,” a group of nations supporting Ukraine. Macron stressed that Ukraine “can count on our unwavering support” and highlighted ongoing collaborative work with the United States to define long-term security guarantees for Kyiv, which he described as essential for any durable peace.

Stakes for European Security

The French leader framed the conflict’s outcome as pivotal for broader European stability, stating that what is at stake in Ukraine directly impacts the security of the entire continent. The London summit represents a continued effort by key European powers to maintain a unified front in supporting Ukraine amidst fluctuating battlefield conditions and complex peace negotiations.

Hurriyet; US-Ukraine talks end without breakthrough amid new Russian strikes

Three days of talks between Ukrainian and U.S. officials produced no apparent breakthrough Saturday, with President Volodymyr Zelensky committing to further negotiations toward “real peace,” even as Russia launched another series of drone and missile strikes on its neighbor.

It’s still looking as if Poland will be replacing Germany as the EU lead as I’d expected.

And below a flashback to my 2014 article from my memory holed site moved here in 2022

Going back in time- to April 14/ 2014, when the Polish seeds were germinating in order to grow the new big power in the EU. After a certain recalcitrant government was gotten rid of in 2010
