Mineral Deal- yesterday I mentioned the mineral deal would be the rationale for the US to continue it’s involvement in Ukraine including security agreements.
BBC
Earlier, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged President Zelensky to secure Ukraine’s future by signing a minerals deal with the US.
Johnson said he believed Ukraine would sign a “promising” agreement to give the US access to valuable minerals, in return for security guarantees.
But Johnson said it was important to focus on a minerals deal, which he called “the great prize”.
He rejected suggestions the deal was a “rip-off” and said “what the Ukrainians get from this is a United States commitment under Donald Trump to a free, sovereign and secure Ukraine”.
“I hope and believe that today, this week, that agreement is going to be signed,” Johnson said.
It looks to be the case that some times this week Ukraine will have it’s US security commitment and the US will exploit/plunder Ukraine-
As mentioned last week- Team Trump wants Zelensky out. The latest on this news featured just below my relink;
Who Could Replace Zelensky?
Miami Herald lists 2 of the 3 names in my picks
1-General Valery Zaluzhny
The Economist reported on February 19 that it had obtained internal polling indicating he would beat Zelensky in a wartime election.
2-Kyrylo Budanov
An InfoSapiens poll conducted from November 15 to 27 ranked Budanov second after Zaluzhny, with a trust rating of 54.6 percent. In comparison, Zelensky held a 53 percent trust rating, while Zaluzhny led with 76.8 percent.
3-Ruslan Stefanchuk
Right now I’m expecting the new leader to be General Valery Zaluzhny as Ukraine goes into full military dictatorship mode
The division of labour mentioned yesterday- With the EU out front and the US lead obfuscated
Billions in New Military Aid Pledged for Ukraine by European and NATO Partners
Previously, reports indicated that the European Union was preparing to announce a military aid package worth €20 billion, though negotiations between European diplomats suggested the figure could rise. Due to opposition from some member states, including Hungary, the aid is likely to be structured through individual state contributions rather than an official EU-wide package
Spain has also pledged further military support to Ukraine
Denmark also announced a new aid package for Ukraine, amounting to approximately €268 million (2 billion Danish kroner). The funds will be used for ammunition supplies and the development of a brigade-sized Ukrainian force in cooperation with Nordic and Baltic countries.
Canada has committed additional military aid to Ukraine, including 25 LAV-3 infantry fighting vehicles and four F-16 fighter jet simulators. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that this aid would be supplemented with additional ammunition, equipment, and medical supplies. Canada will also transfer the first installment of its US billion aid package, funded by proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
I’ve been around geopolitics too long to have had much faith in Trump as a harbinger of change. Change in rhetoric, but, not in substance. I covered his first presidency at my censored site, alongside many other political leaders and have watched for nearly two decades as leaders build upon the foundation of the former leaders. I’ve yet to see a foundation removed or taken down.
Sigh..

Whatever path is taken here I don’t see a way for Russia to lose.
Either choices will screw up Ukraine. The Mineral choice might be the most dangerous one since depending on how they follow it up(Which there is no example they have ever done it properly), it can cause the feeling of betrayal to manifest. And create a narrative that the Putin was right along and because even bigger divisions in Eastern Europe.
When I heard the offer, what went through my mind is. An offer which is made not to be accepted, but refused. But if they accept it anyway it will probably be something in the line of exploit and not follow up on the promises.
I think taking the mineral deal will be a set up for plunder by the US. With little to no real security supports. I’m also certain once plundered the environmental destruction will be left for the Ukrainians to clean up- If anyone is left, after the Ukrainians keep fighting? And why fight for the demise of their nation?
By that I mean, right now the minerals are Ukraine’s they could finance a rebuilding, but, after this deal- profits will go elsewhere, Ukrainians will continue dying.
So I agree with this “But if they accept it anyway it will probably be something in the line of exploit and not follow up on the promises.”
Also agree with “And create a narrative that the Putin was right along and because even bigger divisions in Eastern Europe. ”
Because inevitably he will have been shown to be correct.
It’s sad, no it’s tragic
apparently sending MORE Canadian troops is on the table

Justin Trudeau did not rule out sending Canadian troops to Ukraine
Trudeau said Canada will continue training Ukrainian troops so that Russia will not be allowed to *end the world order* that upheld sovereignty for many countries for decades.
END THE WORLD ORDER= PAX AMERICANA
Hi Penny:
In his first run as president, I think Trump made poor choices for the people under him, including his vice president. When Trump, as president, was unable to deal with the deep state, I think the deep state became over confident that they could always easily handle Trump. The lawyer, Robert Barnes, whom I followed at the time, suggested Trump might benefit by not winning his reelection and by running again four years later. This seems to have been a good prediction by Robert Barnes. This time Trump’s election is demonstrating to me that he is much better prepared and the deep state has been totally caught off guard and they are now running around in chaos tearing their hair out (if they are not bald).
I’m aware of who Robert Barnes and have listened from time to time to his podcasts.
I hope your correct Gary about Trump. I covered his first presidency. He attacked Syria. Armed Ukrainians. Killed the Iranian General etc., He carried on the policy of his predecessor. Admittedly, it’s still early days in the Trump admin.
That said the American agenda is, in my opinion, vastly larger than any one President- regardless of President or party. That is usually what I follow the agenda rather than the politician, for that reason.
Time will tell
