The US does not have confirmation of a purported chemical attack on Ukrainian fighters in the port city of Mariupol, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday.
The top diplomat said neither Washington nor Kyiv are “in a position to confirm anything” about the alleged attack on the besieged city.
The United States is not in position to confirm reports of the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine but was working to determine what actually happened, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.
Ukraine said earlier it was checking unverified information that Russia may have used chemical weapons while besieging the city of Mariupol.
“We’re in direct conversation with partners to try to determine what actually has happened,” Blinken told reporters.
Speculating:
Mariupol is by and large under control of Russian forces therefore NATO cannot control the narrative.
Another thought… how many western mercenaries and NATO forces etc., are in Russian custody at this time?

“Russia Faces Hard-to-Verify Claims of Chemical Weapons in Mariupol”
The Ukrainazis are holed up in a very large steel mill. Those places are by their nature full of chemicals. See the pdf below regarding toxic substances found at a steel mill not too far from me
Azovstal has numerous toxic substances that, if struck by munitions, could also make people sick.
The plant had a number of secure bunkers that, at the time, were housing about 4,000 staff and family members. All had been pre-stocked with food and water in anticipation of a siege.
Azov battalion has turned the plant into a fortress, making use of its bunkers.
“Let’s look at the place. It’s a steelworks. There’s lots of scope in an industrial setting for conventional or incendiary weapons to cause chemical problems because of fires and explosions,”
Update # 2: Ukraine kidnapped a Ukrainian citizen. Very rich. With alleged ties to Russia. Specifically Putin.
Zelensky offers to swap pro-Russian politician for Ukrainian prisoners
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed on Tuesday swapping captured pro-Kremlin politician Viktor Medvedchuk for Ukrainian prisoners of war held by Russia’s forces.
“I propose to the Russian Federation to exchange this guy of yours for our boys and our girls who are now in Russian captivity,” Zelenskyy said in his daily address.
Medvedchuk is one of the richest people in Ukraine. He is also the leader of Ukraine’s Opposition Platform – For Life party, and had been under house arrest since 2021 after Ukrainian authorities accused him of treason.
