To my knowledge the Trump administration has not ended any wars, active or potential. This is the stuff of delusion. I’m thinking this was an appeal to the US audience from UN headquarters in New York. He said he’d end the Ukraine conflict- He hasn’t. He claimed it was Biden war, but, he increased weapons deliveries in his first term. Armenia/Azerbaijan was settled years ago with Russia as a mediator. Pakistan has launched attacks against India peacekeepers in recent days. Syria is run by Usreal terrorists and is not at peace.

Trump dismissed climate change efforts as “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world,” questioning green energy programs and a bigger hidden environmental agenda promoted by the U.N.

I do believe the man made climate change is a con job- I don’t believe carbon is pollution. That said,this is a big business agenda with a green veneer. Trump surely has to be aware of that- Carbon was commodified for profit– Big global banks have been firmly behind this. Insurance companies love the idea because they can increase premiums while reducing or deny pay outs because “climate change”
Big oil has been firmly behind this as the plan has driven up energy costs and carbon capture is used to keep oil wells going longer- making them more profitable

It’s not an environmental project so much as it is a money making (green/cash cow) project

Trump called out European leaders for continuing to buy Russian oil while supporting Ukraine, labeling the practice “embarrassing” and warning of future tariffs if the purchases did not stop. He also mentioned that the war would not have even started under his leadership, reiterating a commitment to find peace between the two countries.

He calls them (EU) out for this because he wants to force their hand into purchasing more expensive US energy- And he’s incensed they haven’t done this even though it would be to their own detriment- In other words the EU has not bent the knee enough in his opinion.

Trump also condemned what he called uncontrolled migration, describing it as an “invasion” in Europe and further criticizing U.N.-funded programs he said supported the mass wave of illegal immigration.

Uncontrolled migration that results from US waged/supported wars- Including the latest batch of Ukrainian refugees. And the inevitable number of Palestinian refugees. The US is the largest funder of the UN- so it is both making the refugees and paying for them to be relocated. The US has by and large been the biggest creator of refugees through it’s endless warmaking.

Trump is clearly opposed to the recognition of a form of Palestinian state- Claiming it as a “reward for Hamas,”– (that’s a big subject on it’s own) But, Trump himself has continued to support Israel unquestioningly with an abundance of weaponry instead of being the peacemaker, while endlessly vying for a Nobel Peace Prize in a blatant and self promoting manner.

French President Emmanuel Macron responded that U.S. pressure on Israel would be key to achieving a resolution in the conflict.

Macron, as detestable of a weasel he is, is correct. The US has done nothing but coddle Israel as it commits genocide/ethnic cleansing- A goal or desired outcome Israel has made very clear.

Lastly, Trump’s speech at the UN was aimed at his MAGA base. Presenting himself as the boss and no doubt it played well to his base. Still, my perception of the speech was as an attempt to try to stay or present as relevant in a changing global word. The US is still a super power, but, the writing is on the wall. And that makes this a dangerous time.

Regarding the ICC arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant?

I have my doubts they will be arrested. However, from a public relations/perception management point of view. This is very bad for Israel’s reputation in the world. And the over reaction of some parties suggests to me, this is a blow out in the court of public opinion to Israel, US and UK, in particular.

Both the prime minister and the court that issued the warrant will suffer

FOR MONTHS the decision seemed both inevitable and improbable. On November 21st it finally came. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, and Yoav Gallant, until recently the defence minister (pictured right).

They are accused of overseeing war crimes during Israel’s year-long war in Gaza against Hamas, a Palestinian militant group. The court also indicted the top commander of Hamas, which carried out a massacre of Israelis that triggered Israel’s assault on Gaza. But it is the charges against the two Israeli politicians that are the real earthquake: a diplomatic disaster for Mr Netanyahu, and perhaps also for the court itself.

This decision is vastly worse for Mr Netanyahu, but the ICC will come under attack, particularly by the US.

Karim Khan, the ICC’s prosecutor, requested the warrants in May. The case he brought is separate from allegations of Israeli acts of genocide against Palestinians pending before the International Court of Justice, which hears disputes between states (the ICC prosecutes individuals). The type of charges brought against Messrs Netanyahu and Gallant are easier to prove than a charge of genocide against Israel would be: they are accused of using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza, and of directing attacks against civilians in the territory.

A three-judge panel found “reasonable grounds to believe” that such crimes had occurred. Recent events no doubt bolstered Mr Khan’s case: the United Nations continues to warn of imminent famine in northern Gaza, which has been largely cut off from humanitarian aid for the past 40 days. The panel rejected a procedural challenge from Israel, which argued that the court has no jurisdiction in Gaza. Palestine, of which Gaza forms a part, is a signatory to the Rome Statute, the legal framework for the ICC. The judges ruled that gave them authority to investigate crimes committed there.

The ICC is meant to be a court of last resort that steps in when a country’s own courts fail to prosecute abuses. Israel’s attorney-general told Mr Netanyahu this year that forming a state commission of inquiry might stall the ICC’s probe. But he has yet to appoint one, and the judges noted Israel’s failure to do so in their decision.

The ruling drew near-universal condemnation from Israeli politicians. Bezalel Smotrich, the far-right finance minister, called it a “mark of Cain” on the ICC, while Yair Golan, the head of a left-wing party, called it a “shameful decision”. Many Israelis argued that it was the result of antisemitism: Mr Netanyahu himself called it a “modern Dreyfus trial”, referring to the wrongful prosecution of a Jewish officer in the French army in 1894.

But the charge of antisemitism cheapens the term. Nothing about the court’s history suggests a fixation with Jews. Since it was founded in 2002 the ICC has mostly prosecuted African warlords and despots, the likes of Omar al-Bashir, a Sudanese dictator, and Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Libya’s longtime tyrant. Over the past two years it has issued warrants for a number of Russian officials, including Vladimir Putin, for the invasion of Ukraine. This is the first time it has indicted Israelis.

Along with Messrs Netanyahu and Gallant, the ICC issued a warrant for Muhammad Deif, the longtime Hamas military chief. He is accused of directing the murder, torture and rape of civilians on October 7th 2023, among other offences. Mr Deif probably cannot stand trial: Israel believes he was killed in an air strike in July (the court issued a warrant because it could not confirm his fate). Mr Khan had also requested warrants for Yahya Sinwar, the architect of the massacre, and Ismail Haniyeh, the group’s leader at the time. Those requests were withdrawn because both men were killed by Israel this year.

There is no risk that Israel will extradite Messrs Netanyahu or Gallant to The Hague, since the country is not a member of the ICC. But 124 other countries are, including many of Israel’s closest friends. The most immediate consequence of the judgment is that both men will be unable to travel to those countries for fear of arrest. Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign-policy chief, said the court’s decision was binding on all EU members. “Netanyahu has ended his journey as a legitimate leader in the international arena,” wrote Eran Etzion, a former deputy national security adviser under Mr Netanyahu.

The main exception, of course, is America, which is not a member of the court. The decision has thrown a bombshell into America’s presidential transition. It will embarrass Joe Biden’s outgoing administration, divide Democrats and outrage Republicans as they prepare to take control of the White House and both houses of Congress in January.
Leading Republicans have warned that America will impose sanctions on the ICC—with support from Democrats if possible or without it if necessary. Mike Waltz, whom Donald Trump has chosen to be his national security adviser, promised a “strong response” to the court’s “antisemitic bias”. John Thune, the Senate’s incoming majority leader, denounced the ICC’s move as “outrageous, unlawful and dangerous”. He said that its actions, left unchecked, “could pose a threat to the United States in the future”.

He urged Chuck Schumer, the Democratic majority leader in the Senate, to take up a bill passed by the Republican-controlled House in June that would apply sweeping economic sanctions and visa restrictions to judges and others linked to the ICC, including their family members. If not, he warned, Republicans would do so in January as a “top priority”.

The writing was on the wall- the US knew this. Hence a bill passed in June to apply sweeping sanctions etc.,

Democrats, for their part, are increasingly split over the war in the Middle East. On November 20th the Senate firmly rejected three motions calling on Mr Biden to halt various weapons shipments to Israel, but 17 of the 47 Democrats, and two independents who support them, voted for at least one of the critical motions. The Biden administration is in a quandary. It has opposed legal action against Israel, but it has supported the court in issuing an arrest warrant for Mr Putin and has resisted the House sanctions bill as going too far.
Ironically, it may be the court that suffers the most immediate consequences in the form of sanctions imposed by America. Mr Netanyahu is not about to end up in the dock, nor is Israel about to end its war in Gaza. But the judgment will have long-term consequences: both Mr Netanyahu and the country he leads will be more isolated and more dependent on the United States. ■

The US loved the ICC when it was issuing arrest warrants for African warlords and Vladimir Putin- who were, not coincidentally, being targeted by the US. Now it is the US alone that stands unquestioningly beside Israel as it commits very obvious and open war crimes. Israeli leadership doesn’t hide what they are doing. Israeli soldiers do not hide what they are doing. The rest of the planet is aware of what is being done by the Israelis against the Palestinians.

Nov 20 (Reuters) – The United States on Wednesday vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza, drawing criticism of the Biden administration for once again blocking international action aimed at halting Israel’s war with Hamas.
The 15-member council voted on a resolution put forward by 10 non-permanent members that called for an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” in the 13-month conflict and separately demanded the release of hostages.

Only the U.S. voted against, using its veto as a permanent council member to block the resolution.

Members roundly criticized the U.S. for blocking the resolution put forward by the council’s 10 elected members: Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Switzerland.

“It is deeply regretted that due to the use of the veto this council has once again failed to uphold its responsibility to maintain international peace and security,” Malta’s U.N. Ambassador Vanessa Frazier said after the vote failed, adding that the text of the resolution “was by no means a maximalist one.”

Can Ukraine’s Deadly Land Mines Approved by Biden Stop Russian Advancement?

The U.S. will send antipersonnel land mines to Ukraine in the second major policy shift from the winding-down Joe Biden administration in only a few days, although it remains to be seen just how much of a difference these mines will make in the face of Moscow’s advances. President Biden, who is in a last-ditch effort to supply Ukraine in his final two months in office, greenlit the supply of antipersonnel land mines to Kyiv, a U.S. defense official told Newsweek. The mines will become inactive after a predetermined period of time, the official said. Ukraine has committed not to use the mines in densely populated civilian areas, the official added. U.S. officials told The Washington Post, which first reported on the approval, that the Pentagon assesses the mines could be one of the most effective ways to slow Russia’s attacks, which have yielded battlefield gains in the east throughout the year.

Land mines can be effective military tools, but are controversial among human rights groups as they can pose a danger to civilians for a long time. They are banned by over 150 countries, although this does not include Russia or the U.S. The latter has already furnished Ukraine, which is the most mined country in the world, with land mines designed to take out armored vehicles and tanks. Russia has reportedly used more than a dozen types of antipersonnel land mines in Ukraine, according to Human Rights Watch.

Ukraine has fired UK-made Storm Shadow missiles into Russia for the first time since the beginning of the conflict, the Guardian understands according to multiple sources.

The decision to approve the strikes was made in response to the deployment of more than 10,000 North Korean troops on Russia’s border with Ukraine in what UK and US officials have warned was a major escalation of the nearly three-year-old conflict.

The Guardian earlier this week reported that the UK would soon approve Storm Shadow missiles for use inside Russia after the US president, Joe Biden, agreed to do the same for the similar American Atacms weapon.

It was not immediately clear what Ukraine used the Storm Shadow missiles to target. Unconfirmed images distributed via the Telegram messaging app appeared to show fragments of the missile at a location with the Kursk region. One weapons expert, Trevor Ball, formerly of the US Army said the images circulating did show Storm Shadow fragments though he could verify if they were current or old pictures.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, saw thousands of pagers, walkie-talkies, and other handheld communication devices explode simultaneously. The attack targeted the militant group Hezbollah but resulted in widespread civilian casualties. The Alleged Perpetrator: Israel in the Spotlight

The New York Times, in a detailed exposé, shed light on the alleged Israeli operation. According to their report, which cited 12 current and former defense officials speaking on condition of anonymity, Israeli intelligence used a shell company to deliver the rigged communication devices to Hezbollah.

NYT’s Israel and the Exploding pagers

The Shell Company: B.A.C. Consulting

The front company, reportedly named B.A.C. Consulting and based in Hungary, was one of three such entities created to infiltrate Hezbollah’s supply chain. The pagers, manufactured separately from regular products by Israeli intelligence officers, were sent to Lebanon via a Taiwanese intermediary called Gold Apollo.

What made these devices particularly insidious was their explosive payload. The batteries of these pagers were allegedly laced with PETN, an explosive known for its difficulty to detect during security screenings. This same explosive has been used in various terrorist plots in the past.

The Timeline: A Long-Term Operation

The operation, according to the New York Times report, began in the summer of 2022. Initially, small numbers of devices were shipped, but the operation rapidly escalated after February.

Highly, highly suggestive that Israel has plans/planned to attack Lebanon for years. Prior to the October 7/23 incident, the often claimed but entirely bogus start point for the attack on Gaza, West Bank/Palestine and all that ensued afterwards. In fact the NYT’s article says just that “intelligence officials who were briefed on the attack say the Israelis were behind it, describing the operation as complex and long in the making.”

Ironically, what Nasrallah saw as a defensive measure became the very tool of destruction. Israeli intelligence officers reportedly referred to the pagers as “buttons” that could be pushed when the time was right.

The Human Cost: Innocent Lives Lost

While the attack was allegedly aimed at Hezbollah, many innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfire. One heartbreaking story is that of 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah from the village of Saraain in southern Lebanon. The young girl was bringing a pager to her father when it exploded, claiming her life.

This tragic loss of innocent life underscores the indiscriminate nature of such attacks and raises serious ethical questions about the use of such tactics in conflict zones.

Oddly enough I received an email from a reader asking me what I thought about this idea- My response was this is a big subject. But in general I’d say the UN needs to be reformed. It also needs to be reduced in size and scope of duties. UN peacekeeping, it seems to me has been an abysmal failure- resulting in crimes and abuse including sexual abuse. Repeatedly. It has been almost a year since Israel began bombing Gaza. Their attacks have not only killed nearly 42,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, but also displaced hundreds of thousands and destroyed the infrastructure of the enclave. Israel’s War Cabinet, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, is now expanding the war on Gaza to neighboring Lebanon, and nearly 600 people have been killed in airstrikes on civilian areas so far, while thousands of others are injured and displaced. Israel’s relentless attacks on civilian areas, schools, hospitals, humanitarian convoys, journalists and United Nations personnel have seen no limits.

This week, world leaders have convened for the 79th session of the U.N. General Assembly meeting in the organization’s New York headquarters in the U.S. The atrocities and genocide taking place in Gaza, the ongoing tragedy in Sudan and the Ukraine-Russia conflict were some of the key topics of the speeches.

“Israel’s attitude has once again shown that it is essential for the international community to develop a protection mechanism for Palestinian civilians,” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said during his historic and powerful speech he delivered following the speech of U.S. President Joe Biden.

In contrast to Biden’s speech, which was rather ambiguous on a path forward and how to tackle the current conflicts, Erdoğan delivered a speech that criticized the international community’s idleness in the face of the Gaza genocide, called for reform to the U.N., and raised questions about Western values and the sincerity of Western leaders.

History is repeating itself

The human tragedy does not end. In the early and mid-years of the 20th century, the world witnessed two bloody wars. According to a common consensus, more than 16 million were killed during World War I between 1914 and 1918, and it ultimately led to the fall of four great empires. In the aftermath, the League of Nations was formed in 1920 “to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security.”

The World is bigger than five’

The calls for reform to the U.N. system are increasing, especially from emerging powers in the Global South. “It is time for reform or rapture,” the outgoing secretary-general had said about the current U.N. system in the face of current global challenges.

Erdoğan is also among the pioneers of the new wave of reform of the current global governance, as the world order is no longer a bipolar system. There is uncertainty about how the current multipolar world order will be designed. In this phase, it is time for a reform of the U.N.-led global governance system for a “fairer world” and more just system where the rights of all members of the international community and not only the powerful will be protected.

We need the values represented by the maxim “The World is bigger than five,” more and more nowadays. We witness that international peace and security are too important to be left to the arbitrariness of the “privileged five.”

Otherwise, in the absence of such change and reform for more effective global governance that would protect the rights of the victims against aggressors like Israel, many more Gazas would emerge and it is inevitable that new genocides would continue to take place. Lastly, it should be underlined that it is the duty of all the members of the international community, not only a few, to ensure that this reform is actually realized.

More empty words from the White House

The White House on Wednesday warned all sides against escalation in the Middle East after two days of blasts in Lebanon, which are widely attributed to Israel, involving hand-held devices targeting Hezbollah.

“We still don’t want to see an escalation of any kind. We don’t believe that additional military operations are the way to resolve this crisis,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

Israeli official alludes to Israel’s involvement

The religious allusions and justification are front and centre of everything Israel does- I mean, allegedly, God gave them the land? As well as the usual chosen, by God, claim.

Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi hinted at Israel’s responsibility for recent explosions of wireless communication devices in Lebanon, which resulted in 26 deaths and more than 3,250 injuries.

Karhi, a member of the Likud party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggested Israel’s involvement in the blasts that occurred Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

The newspaper reported that Karhi referenced a passage from the Torah on social media, which seemed to allude to responsibility for the explosions.

The verse posted by Karhi on X reads: “Desolation, emptiness, ruin and the heart melts and the knees bow and the blood flows in every way.”

The verse is from the book of Nahum, believed to have been written between 663 and 612 BCE, and discusses the prophecy of the fall of the Assyrian Empire during the Babylonian exile.

Karhi’s post sparked mockery and criticism among Israelis on X, with some labeling the minister as “foolish.”

“Thank you to the minister for taking official responsibility,” said one user, while another asked, “A government minister suggesting we are responsible?”

Israel moves 98th elite brigade from Gaza to Lebanese front

“With peak readiness on the northern front, the Israeli army decided to move the elite 98th brigade there,” according to Israeli Army Radio. “The brigade was originally scheduled to continue fighting in Gaza, but it was decided in recent days to transfer it north.”

The US’s weakening clout?

Some 124 members voted in favor, with 14 voting against and dozens abstaining.

The vote’s passage, The Economist argued, signaled the US’s ”weakening clout” over the UN, even as it remains its biggest financial contributor.

Israel has wanted a wider war all along and they’ve done everything they can to create the conditions for it to happen.

Russia proposed amendments to the UA text, which were seen by Reuters, that included calling upon both Hamas and Israel to accept the proposal and demanding an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire respected by all parties.

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, said that “an immediate ceasefire is the basic premise” for saving lives, expanding humanitarian access, and preventing further conflict.

The ambassador pointed out that the U.S. draft was “unbalanced in many aspects,” especially concerning Israel’s recent repeated declarations of planning military attacks on Rafah.

“The draft did not clearly oppose such actions, sending a very wrong signal with serious consequences,” the ambassador added.

The text of the American draft resolution allows the continued killing of civilians and lacks clear guarantees, said Algeria’s permanent representative to the UN, Amar Bendjama, pointing out that the Council must be empowered to impose a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Bendjama stressed that the draft did not mention “Israel’s” responsibility for killing the Palestinians and has fallen far short of the level required.

Based on a responsible attitude towards upholding justice, the United Nations Charter, and the dignity of the Security Council, and also due to the concerns and strong dissatisfaction from Arab countries towards the draft, China, along with Algeria and Russia, cast a vote against it.

But the text of the resolution stopped short of clearly demanding a ceasefire without conditions. Instead, U.S. diplomats came up with the clunky formulation that the United Nations Security Council “determines the imperative of an immediate and sustained ceasefire.” It went on to say that such a ceasefire would be to “protect civilians on all sides”, “allow for the delivery of essential humanitarian assistance” “alleviate humanitarian suffering” and that the council “unequivocally supports ongoing international diplomatic efforts to secure such a ceasefire in connection with the release of all remaining hostages.”

At the UN on Friday, Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said that the U.S. draft was “not enough” and that the Council needs to “demand a ceasefire.” The US resolution was “deliberately misleading” and designed to throw “a bone” to American voters demanding Biden call for a ceasefire.

Did the U.S. resolution call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza?

It did not. The U.S. resolution linked a ceasefire to access to Israeli hostages held by Hamas and the ongoing talks over their release.

Russia on Tuesday opposed the dismissal of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees’ (UNRWA) employees based on Israeli claims.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council Vasilya Nebenzya urged the agency management to reconsider the step.

“We note that these employees were immediately dismissed before any investigation was carried out only on the basis of accusations from Israel. … We urge to reconsider this step until all the circumstances of the incident are clarified,” he emphasized.

Suspicions are not grounds for such drastic disciplinary actions, accusations against 12 agency’s representatives cannot be used to “indiscriminately denigrate the entire UN structure,” he stressed.

“The agency’s funding must be restored in full, otherwise the agency’s blackmailers will fully share the blame with Israel for all the consequences for the people of Gaza from this inhumane step,” he said.
