Juraj Cintula is allegedly a poet and author- As if that suggests he’s incapable of violence. Puhleez! Poets are not angels. Percy Shelley by all accounts had a penchant for using women for his own pleasure and then dumping them. William S Burroughs shot and killed his wife “accidentally” One could say they have a tendency to instability. Juraj Cintuala being a poet/author is entirely meaningless except to create a perception of him as “sensitive and thoughtful” Let’s discard that idea.

Social media aka X (Twitter) is full of people claiming Juraj was pro- Russian and shot Fico because he was pro- Ukrainian. One disinfo account on X- provided this link to me as proof of this being true! The headline is entirely disconnected from the information in the article

Fico: Slovakia fully supports Ukraine’s EU membership

Not blocking isn’t the same as fully supporting- It could indicate resignation or reluctance alongside an inability to effect change

He also qualified this with “The Slovak prime minister has previously said that he does not oppose Ukraine’s membership in the EU if Kyiv meets all criteria for accession."

One qualifier after another (a statement) containing extra detail or explanation (which makes a prior statement less strong or less general)

“Elected in September 2023 on a populist, Ukraine-skeptic platform, Fico halted arms supplies from Slovakia’s military stocks and has repeatedly criticized both defense assistance for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.”

I’m not getting the full support vibe of Ukraine from an article that was supposed to make this case.

Also noticing the media coverage in the US is differing from media outlets outside of the US. American based msm is claiming the name of the shooter has not been released. (as of earlier today)

But the name is available from other global news outlets.

The western media has already decided this is a “lone wolf” shooting, but, I can’t imagine that to be true. Western media is calling the shooter, Juraj Cintula “populist”& “pro Russian”

Clearly he talked politics

What signs would there be of it? Is he going to hang neon lights glowing “I’m going to shoot the leader” ?? Meaningless stuff.

Lone Wolf? Not likely as he regularly protested the government of Slovakia, demonstrating alongside pro EU protestors. It’s also been reported he’d written critically about the PM on social media- realizing not everyone who writes negatively about a political leader is necessarily an assassin- but, protesting, negative writing and possible ties to Ukraine.

News outlet Aktuality.sk cited his son as saying his father was the legal holder of a gun licence.
“I have absolutely no idea what my father intended, what he planned, what happened,”
The son said that all he could say about his father’s views about Fico was that he did not vote for him and that his father was not a psychiatric patient.

Slovakia’s populist PM has been condemned by Western media – even as he fights for his life. Victim blaming. Frank Furedi is very observant in this regard

Essentially, because of his politics, Fico is seen by Western elites as undeserving of sympathy. The contrast in the media coverage of other recent acts of political violence could hardly be more stark.

Unconfirmed but there are whispers his wife is a Ukrainian refugee who was involved with the Maidan protests

This kind of up close and personal assassination attempt which is almost suicidal in design indicates that either the shooter thought he’d be protected later or he was coerced, or compelled. As a public figure it is highly unlikely that he acted alone in some kind of emotional vacuum.

* Shoddy work by the body guards, they seemed confused and indecisive even as they hauled the wounded PM to the car.

Regarding the body guards.. I watched the video multiple times, they appeared shocked or stunned at what had happened. Just my opinion

Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico was injured in a shooting and taken to hospital, according to local media reports.

The incident took place on Wednesday in the town of Handlova, some 150 kilometres northeast of the capital, according to the news television station TA3.

A suspect has been detained, it said.

Deputy speaker of parliament Lubos Blaha confirmed the incident during a session of Parliament and adjourned it until further notice, the Slovak TASR news agency said.

The incident took place in front of the local House of Culture, where Fico came to meet with supporters. Police sealed off the scene.

A reporter for the daily newspaper Dennik N daily heard shooting and then saw rescuers carrying the premier to a car.

A populist former prime minister and his leftist party have won early parliamentary elections in Slovakia, staging a political comeback after campaigning on a pro-Russian and anti-American message, according to complete results announced Sunday.

Saturday’s election was a test for the small eastern European country’s support for neighboring Ukraine in its war with Russia, and the win by Fico could strain a fragile unity in the European Union and NATO.

Fico, 59, has vowed to withdraw Slovakia’s military support for Ukraine in Russia’s war if his attempt to return to power succeeds. “People in Slovakia have bigger problems than Ukraine,” he said.

In other countries, including Germany, France, and Spain, populist parties skeptical of intervention in Ukraine also command significant support. Many of these countries have national or regional elections coming up that could tip the balance of popular opinion away from Kyiv and toward Moscow.

Fico’s critics worry that his return to power could lead Slovakia to abandon its course in other ways, following the path of Hungary under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and to a lesser extent of Poland under the Law and Justice party.

“It can’t be ruled out that he will be looking for a partner who uses similar rhetoric, and the partner will be Viktor Orbán,” said Radoslav Stefancik, an analyst from the University of Economics in Bratislava.

Orbán welcomed Fico’s victory.
