My feeling is this is not entirely accurate, but, don’t know.

However…. this thought keeps going through my head; If the US is offering up a “peace agreement” who has Russia been fighting all this time? Ukraine? That doesn’t make sense.

A report from the Polish outlet Onet claims to have obtained details of a proposed US offer to Moscow. According to the report, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff presented a six-point plan to the Russian government during meetings in Moscow. The key elements include an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and the lifting of most US sanctions on Russia.

The proposal reportedly allows Russia to retain control of Ukrainian territory it currently occupies, with the status of those areas to be reviewed in 49 to 99 years. It also offers to restore Russian access to international oil and gas markets at a later stage.

However, the reported plan does not guarantee a halt to NATO expansion and confirms that US military assistance to Ukraine would continue.

Analysts say the proposals, if accurate, mark a significant shift in the US position. (?) Senior researcher Jussi Lassila from the Finnish Institute of International Affairs said the framework mirrors earlier ceasefire suggestions rejected by Moscow last winter.(?) This time, however, Russia might be more willing to consider the terms due to increasing economic pressure.

In recent weeks, the coalition government of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has taken several domestic and international steps to strengthen Poland’s military capabilities and social preparedness. In a major speech in parliament on March 7, Tusk explained the basis for Poland’s accelerated military buildup Tusk warned that intelligence reports shared by allies indicate that Moscow is planning for a significantly larger war within three to four years by massively investing in its military expansion and capacity for mobilization. Tusk claimed that the government was considering the need to build a half-million-strong army in Poland, including reservists. Poland already possesses the third-largest military in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the largest in the European Union with 216,100 personnel (Notes from Poland, July 16, 2024). It is surpassed only by the United States (1.3 million) and Türkiye (481,000), and is followed by France (204,700), Germany (185,600), Italy (171,400), and the United Kingdom (138,100). The previous Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwośċ, PiS) government had set a target in 2022 to increase the size of the armed forces to 300,000 personnel. That figure has now been increased due to the growing threat from Russia and the uncertainty surrounding the United States’s commitment to defending Europe.
Poland’s focus on national defense has been evident in its consistent increases in military spending and weapons acquisition In 2022, Poland was one of only nine NATO members to maintain its military spending above the 2 percent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) guidelines agreed upon by NATO leaders and reaffirmed by their 2014 “Defense Investment Pledge” (NATO, June 18, 2024). At a cost of 2.4 billion euros ($2.56 billion), Warsaw is fortifying approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles) of its eastern and northern borders in preparation for a potential attack. This “East Shield” (Tarcza Wschód) project includes new physical infrastructure, such as bunkers, minefields, and anti-tank obstacles, together with electronic components, including satellite monitoring, thermal imaging cameras, and anti-drone systems.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s President Andrzej Duda again called on the United States to deploy nuclear weapons to Poland as a deterrent to Russia, the latest indication that the frontline NATO nation is increasingly considering nuclear protection as fears of Russia grow.

Duda’s adviser for international affairs, Wojciech Kolarski, followed up on Duda’s appeal with an interview on Poland’s RMF FM radio Thursday morning in which he argued that nuclear protection would improve security for Poland, a NATO member along the alliance’s eastern flank that shares borders with Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian territory of Kaliningrad.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a political opponent of Duda’s, said last week that Poland was in talks with France concerning President’s Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to use France’s nuclear deterrent to protect the continent from Russian threats. Moscow called that idea “extremely confrontational.”

“The borders of NATO moved east in 1999, so 26 years later there should also be a shift of the NATO infrastructure east. For me this is obvious,” the FT cited Duda as saying in an interview.

It would be safer if those weapons were already in the country, Duda added.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a political opponent of Duda, said on Thursday he thought it was better to address such issues discreetly rather than in media interviews, although he added that he believed the president had good intentions.

“We should formulate certain expectations… publicly when we are certain, or have reasons to be convinced, that such appeals or calls will be heard and that the addressee, in this case the American administration, President Trump, is prepared for a positive response,” Tusk told reporters.

Russia launched about 200 missiles and drones at Ukraine overnight on Monday, in what appeared to be the biggest attack on the country in weeks.

We’ve heard a lot today about Russia’s ongoing attacks against Ukraine. They’re brutal. They’re unacceptable. We condemn them in the strongest terms.

Yet, despite Russia’s extreme effort, Ukraine remains sovereign and independent. Celebrating Ukraine’s August 24th Independence Day after 914 days of war is a testament to its independence, sovereignty, and its inherent right to choose and protect its democratic path.

I congratulate Ukraine on its independence. This date marks the day in 1991 when Ukraine officially left the Soviet Union and became a sovereign, democratic country. It’s a day of pride for Ukraine’s resilience, and a celebration of Ukrainian heritage and culture.

NATO member Poland should eventually get nuclear weapons as a security measure, a top Polish general has said.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Warsaw has been a key supporter of Kyiv and has warned of the danger posed by the Kremlin, which has made repeated nuclear threats.

Without mentioning Russia by name, Brigadier General Jaroslaw Kraszewski told Polish media outlet RMF FM that if Poland had nuclear weapons it would deter aggression from abroad because nuclear powers enjoy a high degree of security.

“I consider it a challenge of several years to have such an arsenal,” said Kraszewski, according to a translation. “I hope it will come to that.”

“I think this scenario is very realistic,” he added.

Security Service alleges coup

On the morning of September 18, the Georgian Security Service issued a statement saying that there are plans to repeat the Ukrainian Euromaidan in Georgia.

According to the SBG, behind this plan are “certain groups of individuals acting on the territory of Georgia and beyond its borders,” specifically ethnic Georgians working in the Ukrainian government and residing in Ukraine. The statement mentions three people:

Giorgi Lortkipanidze, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, who was deputy interior minister under Saakashvili’s government, is named as the author of the plan. A former security guard of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, Mikhail Baturin, is also mentioned. Another figure is Mamuka Mamulashvili, a member of Saakashvili’s closest entourage and commander of the Georgian Legion operating in Ukraine.

According to the SBG, the training of young people who will take part in the riots is taking place near the border with Poland:

“According to confirmed and verified information, the plan developed by Lortkipanidze is to use a rather large group of persons of Georgian origin fighting in Ukraine and a part of Georgian youth under the influence of interested parties, whose training is being conducted near the Polish-Ukrainian state border.”

The agency also names several Ukrainian organizations, which, according to its information, are also involved in the process:

“To prepare youth groups for use in the revolutionary scenario, the Kanvas organization is used, the core of which is the Otpor organization. These are the organizations that took active part in the revolutionary processes that unfolded in Serbia in the past, and, accordingly, are regularly used in different countries to train young people and involve them in destructive processes.”

According to the Georgian security service, all these individuals and people close to them are planning to stage mass riots in October-December. “The ultimate goal of this is to change the government by violent methods.”

October-December were not randomly chosen as the date for the start of destructive processes, the statement goes on, as this is the period when the interim and final conclusions of the European Commission [on Georgia’s obtaining the status of an EU candidate country] are to be published.

The statement also stressed that this plan was planned with the coordination and financial support of foreign countries.

Associate Professor of Ilia State University Giorgi Meladze responds to the statement of SBG that the group “Kanvas” is engaged in preparing young people for such an event.

According to the director of “Kanvas”, no coup d’état is planned by the group, and the purpose of SBG is to intimidate people.

(Bloomberg) — Ukraine will file a complaint to the World Trade Organization over an import ban of its grain into Poland, Hungary and Slovakia “in several hours,” according to Deputy Economy Minister Taras Kachka. 

Kyiv also plans to retaliate with its own bans on imports of several products if they don’t scrap similar restrictions, and may target goods such as onions and apples from Poland and cars from Hungary, Kachka said by phone Monday.

Kyiv will sue Poland, Hungary and Slovakia over their refusal to lift the ban on Ukrainian agricultural products. This was announced by Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine, in an interview with Politico.

Last Week Sergei Shoigu claimed Poland has plans to occupy western Ukraine

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed on Wednesday that Poland has created plans presumably for security but are in fact for the “occupation of Western Ukraine.”

“There are plans to create on a regular basis the so-called Polish-Ukrainian connection supposedly to ensure the security of Western Ukraine, but in fact – for the subsequent occupation of this territory,” Shoigu said according to state news agency TASS.

Jarosław Kaczyński, the chairman of Poland’s ruling party, has described his main election rival Donald Tusk as “the personification of pure evil” and called the opposition “traitors [who] must be morally exterminated”.

The Law and Justice (PiS) leader, who also serves as deputy prime minister, was speaking at a series of “military picnics” being organised by the defence ministry around Poland.

At one today in the town of Uniejów, central Poland, Kaczyński declared that “Tusk is the personification of evil in Poland, pure evil”.

He accused the opposition leader of “gathering all dark elements under his banner in order simply to win, to implement a plan that is not Polish, but [a plan] of the Brussels bureaucracy”. The only way to prevent this from happening is “voting for Law and Justice, for a strong Poland”.

Yesterday, at another military picnic in the southeastern town of Zawichost, Kaczyński warned that “in Poland there is a truly powerful camp of national treason that today is striving for power”.

“Someone here among the audience said that traitors should be exterminated,” the PiS leader continued. “Yes, they must be morally exterminated.”

For his part, Tusk recently suggested that Poland’s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party is supported by – and shares a mentality with – unemployed men who beat women and children.

Reports that Russia had struck Odessa on a mass scale, Monday, yet Ukraine claimed to have intercepted every incoming missile, drone etc.,

Russia launched three waves of drones and missiles against the southern Ukraine port city of Odesa, officials said Monday, though the Ukrainian air force said it intercepted all the airborne weapons fired during the nighttime attacks.

Falling debris from the interceptions of 15 Shahed drones and eight Kalibr missiles damaged a residential building, a supermarket and a dormitory of an educational facility in the city, Odesa Gov. Oleh Kiper said.

There are contradictory claims regarding the strikes on Odessa- suggesting Ukraine didn’t intercept everything. Also, as Ukraine attempted to intercept, Russian military was able to locate the placement of these air defense weapons and take them out.
