Hi Kaz
yes, we've agreed to disagree on this topic-
"The west want’s to push Russia away from the black sea, at least that is what it looks like to me. Which is not only a threat for Russia, but also for Turkey and perhaps China"
And to me it looks so much bigger then that. There has long been a plan by the US to break up Russia. And they have inched ever more closer to the border. Perhaps the US should have respected the territorial integrity of this nuclear power? But they haven't.
This is the problem.
The taking of the Black Sea would be a problem for China and Turkey.
This goes back to MacKinder and his heartland theory
who controls the heartland controls the world-

The new silkroad -directly challenges US global dominance
etc., US monopolization of global resources etc.,

I don't believe (but could be mistaken) that Russia is going to enter Kiev. See my newest posting. There is no need for such an action. It will up the possibility of civilian casualties and Russia has no advantage to be gained from that and there will be no favourable media coverage.
I prefer diplomacy and the US has had decades of opportunity to engage in exactly that. They haven't.

This is all tragic. Every bit of it. The ordinary folk will suffer the most. As the elites play their geopolitical games.

Hi penny,

its no secret that I have been vocal about your bias towards Russia. But this mess in Ukraine however tragic, is due to the incompetence or malintent of the Ukrainian government. Promoted by western powers into maintaining their hegemony.

The west has a bad track record of being relied on. It keeps failing one way or the other in the end. But at the cost of the lives of the common people of their respective countries. Ukraine is no different, many lives will be shattered and heartbroken. while in the west https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOdnISwLkSs

So do I condemn Russia in this case ?. Well... its complicated, The west want's to push Russia away from the black sea, at least that is what it looks like to me. Which is not only a threat for Russia, but also for Turkey and perhaps China. If Russia completes this act in Ukraine Successfully there are longstanding concerns that this might leak over to annexing Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, whether this is founded or unfounded I don't know. With all of this in mind the only thing I can say with certainty is that this entire affair is tragic.

When it comes to heading into Kiev. I think strategically you would normally want to avoid urban combat since that would be synonymous with the mountains of Afghanistan, with the difference that you can blow up the building, but there are so many buildings so there would be no end to it.

I am not taking sides in this squabble, its stupid from beginning to end.

Been following along.. I don't think Russia will head to Kiev. Just an opinion. They will secure the break away territories entire territory. They will ensure Crimea and Sevastapol are secure. It sounds as if the military infrastructure of Ukraine has been hit hard. In order to impede retaliation. I look to the US to see how deadly they want to make this.
I think Europe better step up diplomacy because the US wont' care about your suffering.

Russia will take no more intrusions and incursions.
I'm thinking about Georgia.
But concerned that Biden is a senile leader.
And again am hoping for cooler heads
